How to Become a Vampire in ESO
There are three possible ways you can follow in order to turn your Character into a Vampire! Buy the Skill line from the Crown Store, become infected by a special NPC or ask another player to turn you!
Become a Vampire in ESO via Crown Store
You can buy the skill line with Crowns(premium currency) directly from the Crown Store! This will cost you around 1500 Crowns and is the fastest way to turn into a Vampire!
Become a Vampire in ESO via NPC Infection
This is the most “natural” way to become a Vampire, since it requires playing the game! There are special Bloodfied NPC around the zones of The Rift, Bangkorai and Reaper’s March that can infect you with Vampirism. However it is difficult to find them since they only spawn during the right Moon phase(Blood Moon) at Midnight! You can see their locations on the maps below.
Once an NPC “bites” you, you are infected with Vampirism but you are not a Vampire yet! You must first complete a special Vampire Quest. Head to one of the Vampire Altars to start the Quest.
Become a Vampire in ESO via Player Infection
Finally you can ask other Vampire players to feed on you and turn you into a Vampire! Some players might ask for a small amount of Gold but there will always be players around willing to turn you for free! For players to turn you into a Vampire they must have unlocked the Blood Ritual Vampire Passive and feed on you near a Vampire Altar. You can find these Altars in the Reaper’s March, The Rift and Bangkorai zones as seen on the maps above.
Once a player “bites” you, you are infected with Vampirism but you are not a Vampire yet! You must first complete a special Vampire Quest.
Vampire Quest
This is a short, introductory quest to Vampire and its skills in ESO! Read the Ceremonial Scroll that appears on the Altar and enter the Portal. The portal will take you to an instanced area where you have to complete a few, easy objectives. Follow the instructions to complete the quest and turn into a Vampire. Once the quest is complete you will be a Vampire and able to use the line’s special skills!
Vampire Skills in ESO
The Vampire Skills are a mix of active and passive abilities that will help you create Vampire themed Builds or assist you in Stealth gameplay!
The Vampire active Skills are:
- Blood Scion & Morphs: Allows you to transform into a strong Vampire Lord
- Eviscerate & Morphs: The line’s spammable that deals significant damage
- Blood Frenzy & Morphs: Boosts your Weapon/Spell Damage at the cost of Health every second it is active.
- Vampiric Drain & Morphs: Drain enemies to restore Health, Stamina or generate Ultimate.
- Mesmerize & Morphs: An unblockable stun.
- Mist Form & Morphs: An escape method.
The Vampire Passive Skills are:
- Feed: Allows you to feed and increase your Vampire Stage. Is always available.
- Dark Stalker: Allows you to ignore the Movement Speed penalty of sneak.
- Strike from the Shadows: Boosts your Weapon/Spell Damage when you leave sneak, Mist Form or invisibility.
- Undeath: Reduces your Damage Taken based on your missing health.
- Blood Ritual : Allows you to infect another player with Noxiphilic Sanguivoria once every 7 days by returning to the Vampire ritual site. Players already infected with Lycanthropy cannot be infected with Noxiphilic Sanguivoria.
- Unnatural Movement: Reduces the cost of sprint. Allows you to become invisible when you sprint for 3 seconds.
Benefits of being a Vampire in ESO
Being a Vampire has some nice benefits but also a few strong drawbacks. Vampire has four available stages. Every stage decreases the cost of your Vampire abilities and unlocks new passive abilities for you to use. However as you advance your Vampire stage, the more vulnerable you become to Fire damage and the higher the cost for your normal abilities is.
Vampire Stage 1/2/3/4:
- Health Recovery: -10%/-30%/-60%/-100%
- Flame Damage Taken: +5%/+8%/+13%/+20%
- Regular Ability Costs: +3%/+5%/+8%/+12%
- Vampire Ability Costs: -6%/-10%/-16%/-24%
You can increase your Vampire stage by feeding on NPC. Your Stage will decrease if you do not feed for a few hours. Another way to manipulate your Vampire stage is by using special consumables. The Corrupting Bloody Mara drink will instantly advance you to Stage 4 while the Purifying Bloody Mara drink will reduce your Vampire stage by 1.
What is the Best Way to Play as a Vampire in ESO
Vampire is best suited for Magicka based PVE Builds, as well as Builds that rely on Stealth. PVP Gank Builds or Thief Builds can benefit from the Vampire Passives to complete their tasks faster and with ease. Dark Stalker is an especially valuable ability for that kind of Builds! You can find several Vampire Builds in my ESO Vampire Builds page!
How to Cure Vampire in ESO
If you wish, you can cure your Vampire status any time. You do not lose the skills already learned nor their progression but you cannot use them until you are infected and transformed again. You can buy the cure from the crown store or visit the Mages Guild and ask a Priest of Arkay NPC to cure you for a small fee. The Priests are at the Capital of each Alliance, Mournhold, Elden Root, Wayrest but also around major DLC towns!
