ESO Rumors
Rumors is a new quest system in ESO, that offers no HUD assistance or quest markers! Instead, players must discover these new quests and follow clues to uncover their objectives. A refreshing new approach to questing in The Elder Scrolls Online that rewards players willing to explore Tamriel from a different perspective.
How Rumors Work in ESO
To begin, accept the “Rumors Abound” Quest from the Crown Store for free. Alternatively head to the Southern Docks in Daggerfall, Glenumbra and speak with Tilli the Gossip.
Tilli offers an introductory quest to Rumors and unlocks your first Rumor, “The Berliel Heirloom“.
The Quest Journal in your options now also includes a dedicated Rumors section. Every Rumor you discover will appear here. Initially Rumors are hidden but hovering over each entry reveals a hint that points you toward the location of its first clue.
Every lead and clue you uncover will always be available here. Rumors are divided into three categories based on their complexity:
- Whispers
- Plots
- Conspiracies
Whispers are the easiest rumors to solve while conspiracies are the hardest and more complex to follow.
Rumors Rewards
Rumors offer a variety of rewards that include upgrading materials, like Gems for The Prowler’s Talisman, Pardon Edicts and other valuable items. However, completing a Rumor without relying on quest markers is also a reward of its own!

Rumors is one of the most unique questing systems ever added to ESO. Unlike other quests, there are no quest markers or compass directions. Players will have to pay attention to dialogues and clues to uncover each mystery, making exploration in ESO more fun and rewarding.
