Warlock Class Mechanics Guide BG3
The Warlock is a versatile Class that can focus on melee attacks or a spellcaster play style more. Thanks to their flexibility with both types of gameplay, Warlocks make great melee-mage hybrids. At level 1 you can select a Subclass for your Warlock and at level 3 a Pact Boon, which will define how effective you can play them. The available Subclasses are:
- The Fiend
- The Great Old One
- The Archfey
The Fiend gives you access to several damage focused Spells while The Great Old Ones allows you to be more effective at Crowd Controlling enemies. The Archfey finally also offers Crowd Control options along with Support spells. For a more offensive approach, The Fiend is the Best Option! The Pact Boons you can pick later are:
- Pact of the Chain
- Pact of the Blade
- Pact of the Tome
With Pact of the Chain you can summon a familiar to assist you in combat. Pact of the Blade allows you to summon a Weapon or Bind your equipped weapon, using your spell casting Ability Modifier to deal damage. Finally Pact of the Tome allows you to cast the Guidance, Vicious Mockery and Thorn Whip Cantrips and is better if you wish to focus more on a mage play style!
The Warlock is using Warlock Spell Slots to cast spells and they always cast their Class Spells at the highest level. The Warlock Class also gains access by default to one of the best Cantrips in the game, Eldritch Blast! Finally Warlocks can unlock strong passives called Eldritch Invocations.
