Diablo 4 Helltide

Helltide is an important endgame system in Diablo 4 that offers challenging gameplay and great rewards! This is an Overworld event that spawns randomly in one of the zones of Diablo 4. Helltide is also the only way to obtain rare crafting materials, important for upgrading your characters! Helltide is going to be a major part of your Daily activity, along with Nightmare Dungeons and the Tree of Whispers Bounty system.

What is Helltide in Diablo 4

Helltide is an Overworld activity that appears randomly in one of the zones of Diablo 4! Helltides appear every 75 minutes and last for 1 hour. While a Helltide is active parts of a specific zone will appear red on the map and will also be flooded by stronger enemies and bosses. Before you can participate in Helltide activities you need to complete the game’s main quest and the Capstone Dungeon to unlock World Tier III. At this point a priority quest will appear. Complete it and you will be able to see Helltides spawning on the world.

Aberrant Cinder in Diablo 4

Your goal is to run around the affected area, kill enemies and collect Aberrant Cinder, a Helltide exclusive currency. Aberrant Cinder is a special currency that you can only collect when a Helltide is active. You can spend your Cinders on special chests that appear in the affected zone, called Tortured Gift, for a chance to drop legendary or Unique items and rare materials! Unspent Cinders are lost at the end of a Helltide.

Tortured Gift Rewards in Diablo 4

There are different types of Tortured Gift chests around a zone that reward you with specific pieces of gear. Each type of chest has a different cost of Aberrant Cinder.

  • Tortured Gift of Protection(Armor) costs 75 Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Rings costs 75 Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Amulets costs 125 Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Light Weaponry(1-hand weapon, shield, focus) costs 125 Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Heavy Weaponry(2-handed weapons) costs 150 Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Mysteries(Any item) costs 250 Cinders

All chests appear on the map except for the Tortured Gift of Mysteries one, which is also the most lucrative option! This type of chest appears only when you are near it and drops a higher number of legendary or Unique items! All chests also have a chance to drop the rare crafting materials, Fiend Rose and Forgotten Soul. You can only get those two materials when a Helltide is active, from chests or resource nodes around the affected zone.

Helltide Boss in Diablo 4

Kixxarth is a special Boss that appears when a Helltide is active! It patrols the area, attacking players and has strong defenses. Killing it will reward you with Aberrant Cinders and has a high chance to drop Legendary gear.

Portal Invasion Events in Diablo 4

Portal Invasion Event is a special type of event that can spawn during a Helltide. This event can appear randomly in an area and summons Portals from which numerous enemies invade. If the Event has not started, you will see instead Cultists performing a Ritual. Kill them to spawn the Portals. Destroy the Portals and kill all enemies to spawn the final Boss. Kill the Boss to collect Cinders and valuable items!

Legion Event Boss

While a Helltide is active other Events can still spawn. This includes normal events that appear in the zone, as well as Legion Gathering Events!
