Who is Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Gale is one of the available Origin Characters that you can pick in Baldur’s Gate 3. As an origin character, you can pick Gale at the start of the game as your main character and complete the game with him. Alternatively you can recruit him as a Companion and let him join your party.
How to Recruit Gale in BG3?
You can find Gale near the crashed Nautiloid during Act 1, at the Roadside Cliffs Waypoint. When you approach the Waypoint, you will find instead an unstable “Ancient Sigil Circle“. Interact with the Circle, so Gale can reach out and ask for assistance. By passing a simple ability Check you can pull Gale out of the unstable circle and recruit him. If you fail two checks however, Gale will disappear and you will lose your chance to add him to your team.

Gale Origin Info
Origin Characters have their own unique background, Class, abilities, skills and of course Race. Some of these options are impossible to change but you can alter the rest. As an Origin Character Gale comes with the following:
- Race: Human
- Class: Evocation Wizard
- Bakcground: Sage
- Skills: Arcana, History, Investigation, Insight, Persuasion
It is impossible to change the Race and Background of Gale in BG3 but we can pick a more appropriate Class, abilities and skills that will help more in the game!
What is the Best Class for Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Best Class for Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Evocation Wizard! Gale shines as a spellcaster, so it is better to keep leveling him up as an Evocation Wizard. As a Wizard, Gale can learn powerful offensive Spells that can devastate enemies and offer valuable AOE capabilities. Starting tough fights with a Fireball or another strong Spell can destroy multiple enemies and make your life a lot easier. To maximize Gale’s potential as an offensive Spellcaster, this Build Guide will focus on Fire damage based Spells!
If you wish to alter Gale’s Class entirely, you can easily do it with the help of Withers! You can find Withers by clearing the Dank Crypt early in the game, near your starting location. After that, Withers will join your camp and offer various services, including the ability to change Classes!

Wizard Class in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Wizard is a Spellcaster Class in Baldur’s Gate 3, with access to some powerful Elemental based and Necromancy Spells! A hard Class to master that rewards you with powerful spells and fun gameplay. Wizards can learn even more Spells from Scrolls they find! When you find a Scroll with an unknown Spell, you can choose to learn it and add it to your Spell Pool! However they cannot use all the Spells they know freely. Wizards have to Prepare a certain number of Spells before they can use them in combat. You can swap Prepared Spells at will as long as you are out of combat.
Arcane Recovery is also a unique Wizard Class mechanic that allows you to restore Spell Slots once per day, when out of combat! Like this you can always have your strongest Spells ready before an important fight. Combining this mechanic with Spellcrux Amulet, allows you to recover more Spell Slots and have your favorite Spells ready when you need them. The Wizard is a powerful and flexible Caster in BG3 thanks to its special mechanics.

Evocation Wizard Subclass in BG3
The Evocation Subclass grants access to powerful offensive Spells but also creates safe pockets for your Companions to avoid friendly damage. This unique mechanic of the Evocation Subclass, makes the Wizard a perfect Class to dish out massive damage with AOE Spells without any fear of hurting your allies. These are all the Subclass Features you can unlock:
- Level 2: Evocation Savant – Halves the cost to learn Evocation Spells from Scrolls, Sculpt Spells – Creates pockets of safety within your Evocation Spells.
- Level 6: Potent Cantrip – Your Cantrips become harder to evade.
- Level 10: Empowered Evocation – You can add your Intelligence Modifier to damage rolls with any Evocation Spell.

Constitution is important to get more Health and be easier to survive attacks. Dexterity on the other hand can boost your initiative and allow you to hit early in fight. If you play Gale as your main character then you might also want to put a few points to Charisma, for better dialogue results. For a powerful Gale Evocation Wizard Build you should allocate your abilities like this:
- Strength – 8
- Dexterity – 14
- Constitution – 15
- Intelligence – 17
- Wisdom – 10
- Charisma – 10

Gale Skills
There is no reason to change the original Skills for Gale. They are good for him and fit his Wizard role and Build. So keep Arcana, History, Investigation, Insight and Persuasion as his Skills.
How to Play Gale Wizard Build in BG3
Gale is a Spellcaster that hits hard with Spells from range! He is fragile though and you should avoid melee combat. Keep him as far away from the enemy and fire AOE Spells to thin out hostile numbers fast. Thanks to his Sculpt Spells Subclass feature, you can get your melee characters near the enemy to keep them occupied, then fire strong AOE Damage Spells with Gale at them without fear of hurting your team!
His Fireball spell deals massive damage to enemies and it becomes available early in the game. With Counterspell you can disrupt hostile Spellcasters and protect your group. Evard’s Black Tentacles offers valuable Crowd Control while Globe of Invulnerability will keep you alive when facing dire threat! Gale is a pure Spellcaster that can deal massive damage from distance but cannot help in melee range.
