ESO New Roadmap – Class Rework Delay

The Elder Scrolls Online has updated its roadmap for 2026 and beyond and the outlook is more disappointing than many players were hoping for. In a message published on July 30th 2026, ESO Game Director Nick Giacomini outlined the studio’s updated plans for the game, confirming that several highly anticipated features have been delayed while reassuring players that ESO is here to stay.

He also stated that he will be working closely with Josh Henderson to shape the game’s future. Unfortunately, some of the biggest additions originally expected for 2026 have now slipped into next year.

The Class and Combat refresh as well as the new Trial Crimson Veldt are not coming before 2027! The Update 52 which was supposed to come in Q4 of 2026 has been pushed back to January 2027. That makes Update 51 the last ESO update for 2026.

Update 52 will bring the new Jeral Pass PVP zone, Skyrim Dynamic Encounters: Rimegales and hopefully both the new Trial but also the next Class Rework which should be the Warden! While the letter did not explicitly connect the delay to Microsoft’s recent restructuring, the revised roadmap follows the Xbox layoffs that affected multiple Bethesda studios earlier this month.

What is Still Coming in 2026?

So what is still coming this year? Update 51 enters the PTS(Public Test Server) on August 3rd and launches on live servers on September 28th. This new update will include the Nowhere Vault, the Rumors new system and several player experience improvements.

Additionally, several in-game events are also planned:

  • Whitestrake’s Mayhem event: August 5 to August 12
  • Straight to CrateGolden Pursuit: August 20 to September 17
  • High Seas of Tamriel Event: September 30 to October 14
  • Three-sided Battlegrounds also return permanently with Update 51 on September 28.

Season Two launches on October 21 offering the first two Solo Dungeons, Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices. Markarth and Greymoor become free for all players on November 9 along with a new Golden Pursuit to highlight skyrim and the antiquities system. The Golden Pursuit will last until December 2. More player improvements, as well as the Witches festival and the New Life Festival that are also scheduled before the end of the year.

Another interesting point in the message is that the team is entering a new chapter of collaboration with Bethesda Game Studios without though clarifying what that actually means for ESO and its future.

One notable omission from the roadmap is Cross Play. The feature was not mentioned at all, leaving players without any update on whether development is still ongoing. Likewise, there was no reference to a second Night Market run in 2026, like it was promised before.

While the communication on behalf of Zenimax is welcome, the revised roadmap is difficult to view positively. Especially the delay of class reworks to 2027(without clarifying if they will continue on January along with Update 52 or not) leaves ESO in a combat limbo with only one Class reworked so far, the Dragonknight and enhances the imbalance in certain aspects of gameplay.
