Best Background for Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield
The Best Background for the Stealth Assassin Build is Ronin! Backgrounds are basically starter classes in Starfield, that offer access to a set of three novice skills. Picking the right background for your build will help you become more efficient at your role early in the game.

The Background gives access to the following skills:
- Dueling
- Stealth
- Scavenging
The Best option for melee dedicated Builds that want to remain stealthy! Ronin allows you to deal strong melee damage and remain undetected early in the game! A nice alternative Background for more flexible Stealth Builds is Cyber Runner!
Best Traits for Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield
There are not any Traits that can provide a significant bonus to Stealth in Starfield but there are a few that can boost your combat prowess and survivability! These are the best options:
- Alien DNA
- Introvert
- Terra Firma or Spaced
- Wanted
- Faction and Religious
Alien DNA boosts Health and Oxygen but reduces the effectiveness of healing and food items. Introvert boosts Oxygen when adventuring alone. Terra Firma will boost your Health and Oxygen on the ground but reduce them in space while Spaced will do the opposite. Pick the appropriate one depending on where you plan to spend most of your time. Wanted offers a boost to damage when you are low on health, which means that you have to fail as a stealth character before it kicks in! Even like this, the boost might be valuable if you fail your attack and need the extra damage.
Finally you can pick any Faction specific or Religious specific Trait, if you wish to build up your relationship with one of their corresponding groups. You can only have one of those Social focused Traits in the game active. One for Factions and one for Religions.

Best Skills for Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield
Below you can see the core skills of the Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield! Starfield Skills offer all kind of benefits and can make or break your Build. While we do get access to three Novice Skills with our Ronin background, there are a few more we can take to make it truly efficient and powerful. The Core skills of the Build are
- Stealth
- Martial Arts
- Isolation
- Dueling
- Crippling
These are all the skills you should take for a powerful Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield!
Physical Skills
- Stealth(Novice)
- Fitness(Novice)
- Pain Tolerance(Advanced)
- Martial Arts(Expert)
- Rejuvenation(Master)
- Concealment(Master)
We are focusing heavily on the Physical Skill line because of the nature of the build and its melee attacks! Stealth will help you move undetected while Concealment will make it even harder for enemies to find you. We are not taking advantage of Concealment’s Ranged attacks bonus but the ability to hide from enemies and approach them undetected is vital.
Fitness will offer a higher pool of Oxygen and help you perform more power attacks while Pain Tolerance will reduce Physical Damage. Martial Arts is a core skill of the Build that boosts melee damage. Rejuvenation will increase your survivability by regenerating Health in and out of combat!

Social Skills
- Commerce(Novice)
- Scavenging(Novice)
- Isolation(Advanced)
We already have access to the Scavenging skill from the Ronin background. Scavenging allows us to find credits and items! Commerce is a great skill to make credits in Starfield! With Commerce you can buy items cheap and sell them more expensive for a higher profit.
Isolation is a core skill of the Build that boosts Weapon Damage but also Damage Resistance when you are alone! This skill is also the main reason why we are not using a Companion with the Build.

Combat Skills
- Dueling(Novice)
- Crippling(Master)
- Armor Penetration(Master)
Dueling is a vital skill for the build since it boosts melee damage. Crippling will help you down enemies faster while Armor Penetration makes your attacks to ignore enemy Armor. Both Crippling and Armor Penetration skills are Master Tier skills in Combat. Which means that you have to assign eight points to Advanced and Expert Skills before you can assign any point to them. No combat skill in these two tiers is important for the build so pick a couple of your choice to unlock the Master Tier.
Science Skills
- Medicine(Novice)
- Spacesuit Design(Advanced)
- Chemistry(Expert)
Medicine will boost the healing capabilities of Med packs and other aid items! Spacesuit Design will allow you to craft better mods for your Spacesuit and increase your defenses! Chemistry is important if you wish to create chems and boost further your character.
Tech Skills
- None necessary
You can unlock and use any other skill in the game to enrich the build and make it more personal!
Best Weapon for Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield
Melee Weapons are obviously the best for the Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield. Knives, Axes, Swords, any melee weapon with high damage that can help you kill your enemies. Early in the game you can use any melee weapon you find. Once you get access to UC Naval Cutlass use this one for an upgrade to damage. Later try to get one of the highest damage melee weapons, Wakizashi, Tanto and Va’ruun Painblade.
Wakizashi Weapon Mods:
| Slot | Component |
|---|---|
| Blade | High Carbon Steel Blade |
| Handle | Force-Extruded Handle |
Va’Ruun Painblade Weapon Mods:
| Slot | Component |
|---|---|
| Blade | High Carbon Steel Blade |

Best Armor for Stealth Assassin Build in Starfield
The goal of the Build is to remain undetected until you can approach your target and strike! The Mantis Helmet can help you blend with the environment and avoid detection for longer. To maximize its efficiency with Mods you can add the following:
- First Slot – Shielding of your choice
- Second Slot – Sensor Array(increases the range for enemy detection on the compass) or Explosive Shielding(reduces damage from explosives)
- Third Slot – Heavy Shielding(increases all damage resistance)
- Fourth Slot – Gravitic Composites(reduces detection from enemies)
The Helmet will help you remain undetected while staying still but when you start moving, the enemies will eventually notice you. This is why you will need an armor with good defenses! The Best Armor for the Stealth Assassin Build is the Mirrored Shokctroop Spacesuit! An amazing Armor that reduces incoming Physical damage from ranged Weapons and has a chance to reflect attacks! These perks make it an excellent choice for the Build. To boost its efficiency you can add the following mods:
- First Slot – Shielding of your choice
- Second Slot – Optimized Servos(reduced Oxygen cost for sprinting) or Explosive Shielding(reduces damage from explosives)
- Third Slot – Exo Servos(increases melee damage)
- Fourth Slot – Pocketed(increases carrying capacity)

However if you prefer to bring a Companion along, then the Best Companion for the Stealth Assassin Build is Andreja. Andreja can follow around with her Stealth Skill and assist in combat with Particle Beams! Other good Companions you can use with the Build are:
