Particle Beams weapons deal a mix of Physical and Energy damage in Starfield, which makes them the most powerful weapons in the game. The Particle Beams Expert Build is focusing on this type of damage but is flexible enough to allow you to use your favorite weapon! Particle Beams based weapons appear later in the game, so this Build is designed as an endgame Combat Build!

The Best Background for the Particle Beams Expert Build is Cyberneticist! To maximize the efficiency of the Build early in the game, you should pick a background that gives access to the Lasers skill, which are easy to get early in the game and strong! Backgrounds are basically starter classes in Starfield, that offer access to a set of three novice skills. Picking the right background for your build will help you become more efficient at your role early in the game.
The Background gives access to the following skills:
- Medicine
- Security
- Lasers
The Lasers skill will help you deal great damage with Laser Weapons early in the game. Medicine is another helpful skill to have early that makes Med Packs and aid items more efficient. Finally the Security skill can help with making credits or finding better items by hacking locks. Some good alternative Backgrounds are:
- Explorer
- Xenobiologist

Increasing Health and oxygen is the number one priority for the Build! The Best Traits for the Particle Beams Weapons Expert Build are:
- Alien DNA
- Terra Firma or Spaced
- Introvert or Extrovert
- Wanted
- Empath(if you bring Companions along)
- Faction and Religious
Alien DNA boosts Health and Oxygen but reduces the effectiveness of healing and food items. Terra Firma will boost your Health and Oxygen when on the ground while Spaced will boost your Health and Oxygen while in Space. Introvert boosts Oxygen when adventuring alone while Extrovert boosts Oxygen when adventuring with Companions. Wanted offers a boost to damage when you are low on health, which can be helpful when fighting outnumbered or dealing with a stronger enemy. Empath will increase the fighting performance of your Companions, if they like you. If they do not like you they will not be as effective though.
Finally you can pick any Faction specific or Religious specific Trait, if you wish to build up your relationship with one of their corresponding groups. You can only have one of those Social focused Traits in the game active. One for Factions and one for Religions.

Lasers will help you deal strong damage early in the game with the appropriate weapons, until you can find your first Particle Beams weapon. Particle Beams is a core skill of the Build that will boost your overall damage! Depending on the weapon you wish to focus on, you can unlock and rank up the Pistol, Shotgun or Rifle Certification skills. Sniper Certification and Sharpshooting will further boost your damage and capabilities. Armor Penetration will make your weapons to ignore enemy armor while Crippling will bring down enemies faster. Rapid Reloading reduces the time it takes to reload your weapon and increases your combat efficiency.

Medicine boosts the effectiveness of Med Packs and will keep you alive. Weapon Engineering will help you create better Weapon mods to add to your weapons! Spacesuit Design will do the same for your Spacesuit. Chemistry allows you to create chems to further boost your character.
Tech Skills

- Boost Pack Training(Novice)
You get Security from your Background and that should be enough from this skill line. Also unlock Boost Pack Training for better combat mobility! You can unlock and use any other skill in the game to enrich the build and make it more personal!

Early in the game you can use Laser Weapons that you find as loot or buy from vendors. Solstice Pistol, Equinox and Orion Rifles will carry you until you can get your first Particle Beams Weapon. Depending on the type of Weapon you prefer(or are lucky to find early) you can use the Novalight or Va’Ruun Starshard Pistol, the Big Bang Shotgun or the Va’Ruun Inflictor Rifle! All three types of weapons are powerful and some of the strongest weapons in the game. Later you might also be able to find and use Unique Particle Beams Weapons, like the Eternity’s Gate Rifle! When picking mods for your Weapon focus on mods that increase Accuracy and Damage!

A Spacesuit that increases the damage of rifles, reduces incoming damage from ranged weapons and uses a Med Pack automatically with its Auto-Medic Perk! Wearing this spacesuit will help you deal more damage, especially if you are using a rifle but also take less damage in a fight. To maximize the Suit’s efficiency with Mods you can add the following:
- First Slot – Shielding of your choice
- Second Slot – Optimized Servos(reduced Oxygen cost for sprinting)
- Third Slot – Heavy Shielding(increases all damage resistance)
- Fourth Slot – Pocketed(increases carrying capacity)

How to Play Particle Beams Expert Build in Starfield
The Build is simple and offers a straightforward play style! Your focus is on ranged gameplay, relying on your powerful Particle Beams Weapons. Take cover and shoot your enemies from afar before they notice you. Rifles are my favorite weapons since they allow you to keep your distance and stay relatively safe. They also give you more time to react to charging enemies with melee weapons. If you prefer the Shotgun then make sure you are always on the move, sprinting around and not staying still long enough for the enemy to hit you. This is where the Optimized Servos Mod on your Suit will come handy!
