Best Background for Diplomat Build in Starfield
The Best Background for the Diplomat Build is the Diplomat Background! Backgrounds are basically starter classes in Starfield, that offer access to a set of three novice skills. Picking the right background for your build will help you become more efficient at your role early in the game.

The Background gives access to the following skills:
- Persuasion
- Commerce
- Wellness
Persuasion is the most important skill out of the three, that allows us to persuade NPC and avoid violence. Commerce is a great skill to make Credits from selling items while Wellness increases maximum Health. Some good alternative Backgrounds are:
- Industrialist
- Sculptor
- Space Scoundrel
Best Traits for Diplomat Build in Starfield
Focusing on Social Traits will give us an edge when talking with members of the appropriate faction. But this is a risk because other factions might wary of us. Empath is a nice Trait that offers additional dialogue options from time to time. Finally using Traits to boost Oxygen and Health will help with exploration and surviving attacks. The Best Traits for the Diplomat Build are:
- Freestar Collective Settler or United Colonies Native or Neon Street Rat
- Raised Enlightened or Raised Universal or Serpent’s Embrace
- Empath
- Alien DNA
- Terra Firma or Spaced
- Extrovert
Alien DNA boosts Health and Oxygen but reduces the effectiveness of healing and food items. Terra Firma will boost your Health and Oxygen when on the ground while Spaced will boost your Health and Oxygen while in Space. Extrovert boosts Oxygen when adventuring with Companions. Empath will increase the fighting performance of your Companions, if they like you. If they do not like you they will not be as effective though.
